New Jersey LCV Launches First-Ever Boards and Commissions Fellowship
Trenton, NJ – New Jersey LCV Education Fund is proud to launch its new Boards and
Commissions Fellowship, a groundbreaking leadership development program designed to
prepare diverse environmental champions for service on public boards and commissions across
the state. The program application is officially open as of Monday, October 6, 2025 and will
kick-off in January 2026.
This free, six-month fellowship will provide selected fellows with the skills, knowledge, and
mentorship needed to become effective board and commission members. By creating a network
of diverse leaders who prioritize the environment, the program seeks to ensure that decision-
making bodies reflect the communities they serve and that today’s climate and environmental
advocates help shape the policies of tomorrow.
“Public boards and commissions make important decisions about our natural resources, public
health, and how we prepare for climate change,” said Kate Wister, Boards and Commissions
Program Manager. “It’s critical these bodies represent the voices and experiences of all New
Jerseyans. This fellowship gives passionate, everyday leaders who are looking for ways to
contribute the tools they need to step up and serve.”
Throughout the fellowship, participants will learn about New Jersey’s key environmental issues,
the role of commissions as decision making bodies, and effective leadership, all while practicing
practical skills and building strong networks with peers and mentors.
Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV, added, “This program is about
environmental leadership, civic engagement, and equity. By helping diverse environmental
leaders take seats at the decision-making table, we are ensuring stronger, healthier, and more
inclusive communities across our state. We can’t fight climate change or protect New Jersey’s
future without all voices represented.”
There is no experience required to apply for the program - only an ability to commit to attending
six in-person Saturday sessions (held once a month), connecting with an assigned mentor each
month, and applying to serve on a Board at the conclusion of the fellowship. Applications for the
Boards and Commissions Fellowship are now open and will be accepted through October 31,
2025. Applicants will complete a brief interview and be notified of acceptances by mid-
November, with the program launching in January.
