Governor Murphy Executive Agenda 2022

New Jersey’s Conservation Roadmap

The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (New Jersey LCV Education Fund) is pleased to present the Governor Murphy Executive Agenda 2022: New Jersey’s Conservation Roadmap.

The priorities included in our Executive Agenda emerged from New Jersey LCV Education Fund’s Green in ’21: Environmental Policy Guide. The Guide, released in August of 2021, was developed by drawing on the expertise of over twenty-five partner organizations – including environmental, social justice, community-based, health, student, and civil rights groups – and contains recommendations to address the top environmental, public health, and equity challenges facing New Jersey and our communities.

This Executive Agenda, and its sister document, the Common Agenda for the Environment (legislative), were distilled from the recommendations featured in the Policy Guide. The Executive Agenda acts as a roadmap for the Murphy Administration, as it embarks on its second term, to achieve a clean energy, pro-conversation future that leads the nation.

Environmental Priorities

Toxins and Waste Reduction

Plastic Bottles

Reducing plastic, food, electronic and textile waste is a critical component to meeting New Jersey’s greenhouse gas emissions targets, as well as improving quality of life in communities by decreasing litter and air pollution.  Access to information on hazardous conditions in our communities helps increase accountability and safety.

Governance

Capital Building

If long-term economic vitality and prosperity are goals to be achieved in New Jersey, environmental quality, public health and safety, and support for the State’s most vulnerable communities must take precedence.

Transportation

Bullet Train

Transportation is key to the welfare and quality of life of New Jersey residents. The future of New Jersey’s economy relies on the efficient and sustainable movement of people and goods around the region, yet the transportation sector is the State’s largest source of emissions.

Built Environment

Jersey City

The built environment touches all aspects of our lives, encompassing the buildings we live in, the distribution systems that provide us with water and electricity, and the roads, bridges, and transportation systems we use to get from place to place. It can generally be described as man-made or modified structures that provide people with living, working, and recreational spaces.  (US EPA)  In short, the built environment is our communities.

Clean Water

Clean Drinking Water

Clean water is essential to the residents, environment, and economy of New Jersey.

VIEW FULL RECOMMENDATIONS

Open Space and Land Use

Hiking in Open Space

All New Jersey residents should have easy access to parks and open space, as they are essential to quality of life.

Clean Energy

Solar Energy

Decarbonization is the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions through the use of low-carbon power sources in order to achieve a lower output of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.  Keeping clean energy affordable is critically important, as low electricity prices will help ensure that consumers choose electric heating and cooling technologies over natural gas for manufacturing and heating, and electric vehicles over those powered by fossil fuels.
